		This is a gift boxed SS Great Britain paper weight with a Commemorative medal struck by the Royal Mint rebated into teak from the decking of the Royal Yacht HMS Britannia.



			SS Great Britain was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company. She was launched in 1843 and is now restored and berthed in Bristol. The medal was struck by the Royal Mint to commemorate her return to Bristol. The teak from the Royal Yacht is from the spare decking obtained when the Royal yacht was decommissioned by the Navy. The medals have various degrees of tarnishing and are not cleaned by us. The availability of the item depends on our ability to obtain supplies of the medal which is rare. The piece which is a unique tribute to Britain's nautical and naval heritage is therefore not always available. With the item we provide a letter on handmade paper detailing the items historic provenance. The medal is bronze and was struck in 1970 to commemorate the return of the S S Great Britain to Bristol.
