We have managed to obtain a small quantity of mammoth ivory tusk from Siberia. It’s difficult to work and the pieces vary considerably. In tone and texture. It’s all Mammoth Ivory tusk from either the surface or sub-surface of a tusk which is over ten thousand years old. The surface ivory is riven by fissures of varying depths as a result of exposure to minerals and ice in the soil. We are extremely lucky to have a Sheffield knife maker prepared to work with this rare material and of course every knife made with it is totally unique in tone and texture

Each pen knife comes with a letter on handmade paper telling you about the knife. The scales on the knife will be different on each side and this is entirely the fault of the deceased mammoth and not the knife maker. The Sheffield pen knife is gift boxed in a plain black box. Mammoth Ivory tusks have been encased in ice for a long time. The weathering and exposure to minerals in the ice has imbued the ivory with amazing colours and with a wonderful array of patterns.
