The Imperial Sheffield made pocket knife is made from the rare Karelian wood

The wood originates from the area of Karelia and it is the distinctive soil types and growing conditions which produce the patterns in the wood. The distinctive burrs are deformities in the wood caused by the growing conditions and whilst our razor is produced from solid wood veneers for the wood are used in top quality furniture.

Karelia is located in the northwest of Russia and it is the extremes of temperature that have produced the distinctive features of this wood.

The pocket knife made in Sheffield has flat brass bolsters and is made to a traditional and ancient Sheffield design with a lambsfoot blade. It has a square brass bolster and each knife is different according the patterns in the burl.

Karelian birch was used in a Faberge egg made for the last Tsar of Russia Nicholas II. The egg was made out if Karelian Birch panels set in a gold frame. It was the only Faberge egg made utilising wood.

This Sheffield made pocket knife comes in  a plain black box with a letter on handmade paper describing the knife and the wood. The overall length is six and quarter inches. The wood is beautifully marked and has a polished silky feel to it. The square brass bolsters and the angular shape of the wood produce a unique pocket knife and every one is different. The high shine on the brass perfectly complements the patterned wood. It’s 58 inclusive of UK postage.

This is another Sheffield made pocket knife made with Karelian wood. The wood is richly patterned and has rounded bolsters. each one is different.
