Douglas Bader Hurricane cufflinks

The cufflinks are made from remnants of the control panel of a German Junkers JU88 bomber. The bomber was number 3162 and was shot down on the 18th September 1940. It came down on the coast at Sheerness.

One engine had been damaged by AA fire during a sortie to bomb Tilbury docks. It was engaged by Squadron Leader D. R. S. Bader and the Squadron at the time was flying Hurricanes. The shooting down of the JU88 was claimed by Douglas Bader and other aircraft from other Squadrons were also involved. A unique piece of British history connected to a figure who in his own right joins the pantheon of British military heroes alongside the likes of Wellington, Drake and Nelson - an indomitable spirit who never gave up despite the obstacles in his way  I think we will get no more than ten  pairs of cuff links out of the metal we have acquired. The metal is steel.

An important and historic Battle of Britain item. It comes in a cufflink box with a letter on handmade paper describing the item. The cufflink base for this piece is square with rounded edges and is rhodium plated over brass. It has an angled u-arm fitting. The metal has been treated and varnished but otherwise left as it came to us. It has a mottled appearance where the original paintwork has over time been lost - but of course that is what it is - a original relic from the JU88

V1 doodlebug metal

We have a Sheffield made lambsfoot knife which incorporates the cladding from a V1 rocket bomb which came down in Kent during the Battle of Britain. Given the various anniversaries relating to WW2 and fifty years since man first set foot on the moon this pilotless flying bomb was the precussor along with the V2 of the age of the rocket and was Hitlers first terror weapon and was also known as the buzzbomb on account of the noise it made in flight. Click on the V1 logo to see this Sheffield made pocket knife.Very little of this historic metal is left.
