UNIQUE HISTORIC KEYRINGS HANDMADE IN SMALL QUANTITIES FROM BATTLE OF BRITAIN SPITFIRES AND HURRICANES

We have a new range of keyrings made from a variety of metal coming from World War Two Spitfires and other historic metal from Britain's heritage. These keyrings are quite unlike the keyrings you would normally see they are bigger and heavier. Cutting up the armoured plating from a Battle of Britain Spitfire is not the same thing as moulding a piece of of plastic and of course each keyring is different and unique as result of the distortions of the metal plus the rust and pitting associated with it’s age and history. Each keyring comes with a letter on handmade paper telling you about the metal and the keyring. They come in a black gift box and the prices are postpaid with the UK. The price you see is the price you pay. These are inspirational keyrings with a direct link to historic events in British history.

We will be adding more Meaningful Metal keyrings and cufflinks to the site over the next few months. Keyrings and cufflinks not made by jewellers but by blacksmiths and cutlers and each will carry it’s unique history with it.

This item is from RAF Spitfire number P9469 of 222 Squadron which was was shot down at 4.50 pm on the 7th October 1940. The Spitfire was in combat during an attack on enemy bombers and the Spitfire crashed and was burnt out at Baileys Reed Farm, Hurst Green, Salehurst. At the time of it’s shooting down the Squadron was participating in the Battle of Britain.

This is the piece of curved, battered, rusted and pitted piece of armoured plating from the crashed Spitfire is what we started with in producing the totally unique keyrings below. We only have nineteen in number and I doubt whether we will be able to find any more of similar metal.

The keyring comes with a nut welded to the top which takes the ring for keys. The nut is not original to the Spitfire but it’s use compliments the engineered look of the item. With  the keyring is the solid brass belt hook. We have treated the Spitfire metal to preserve and stabilise the rusting  but to preserve the authenticity of the product it remains a rugged piece of metal - at the end of the day it’s still a piece of crashed Spitfire with all the historic connotations that implies. Have a look at the size it’s not a small item by keyring standards. The widths may vary but the length of each item are all similar. The item pictured will not be the piece you will get but they are all similar with regard to the pitting and corrosion and the colours  resulting from the oxidation.

The length of the body from the top of the nut to the bottom excluding the brass belt clip and ring for keys is roughly 2 3/4 inches. The price inclusive of UK 1st class postage is £62 Spitfire keyring 1. This keyring is in a limited edition of nineteen and the accompanying letter is numbered.
